The Göteborg Wind Orchestra is one of three professional orchestras in Gothenburg and one of Sweden's few remaining full-time wind bands. With its roots dating back to 1905 in the Gothenburg Tram Company Band, the orchestra was officially formed in 1992 and was known as "GöteborgsMusiken" until it got its current name 2007. Located in the heart of Gothenburg, the orchestra presents approximately 50 concerts each year at the "Crown House" as well as touring locally and internationally. In addition to classical repertoire, the GWO presents jazz, choral, and traditional military concerts, as well as outreach and family concerts. A large number of Sweden's top soloists and artists in their respective genres visit every year.
The GWO's current primary funding is provided by the City of Gothenburg and the National Council for Cultural Affairs. Additional income is earned through ticket sales, sponsorships and internal funding.
